The Tory Ten Commandments
The Tories held their annual spring rally conference this weekend. The usual moans and groans from members helped to illustrate just how far the Tories have to go before even appearing like it’s ready for government. There were even some sly attacks on Cameron’s approach- clearly his prospects depend upon the outcome of the local elections next month.
The only interesting thing to happen (well that made me chuckle anyway) was that people leaving Cameron’s dynamic speech were handed leaflets from the Wave network- an outfit set up by the Party Chairman Francis Maude (according to this anyway- see the comments)
They outlined 10 ideas on community:
- Take the bus when you can
- Get to know your neighbours better
- Pick up one piece of litter from the street everyday
- Re-use your plastic bags when you go to the shops
- Switch to energy efficiency light bulbs at home
- Reduce your thermostat by 2 degrees
- Support your local shopkeepers
- Don’t overfill your kettle
- Fill out a donor card
- Give blood
These wishy-washy ideas are certainly the kind of thing that wins elections.
Francis Maude said this on Friday before Cameron’s speech admitting that the Tories have a long way to go.
“We are going to have to earn every foot of the ascent. We are all aware none of this is easy…We are trying to reverse what are actually 20 years of the decline and paralysis.”
Well maybe Maude should make some suggestions to the Wave network. Maybe some real policies might help.
